Fade to black
Phos ( navel jelly) treatment, then primer. Finally a coat of " blitz black". The trunk is looking better and I did the same to the engine compartment . Digging the old seals out of my beat up engine compartment channels was a pain in the , well you get the idea.

Deconstruction
Gutted the wiring under the front deck lid. Removed the gas tank. Have been wire brushing off this flakey stuff that was everywhere . Found more rust to treat. Driver side front fender has a lot of hidden rust ( headlight bucket is eat up) so I may replace that fender.

Parts procurement
Well the jugs turned out to be very worn! So a set of Mahle pistons and jugs have been purchased along with the front engine tin I need, two clutch cables and two accelerator cables ( one each for emergency parts box) as well as a complete carpet kit (it was on sale). Should put the top end in good shape.

1971 beetle project
After a bit of a search I settled on this as the backbone of "The People's All Terain Vehicle " project. Which in a nut shell is my idea of an off road/ on road uber dependable vehicle . She was born in Germany in 1971. Since that time it was striped, roll cage installed , disc breaks all the way around. Fiberglass racing buckets with 5 point harneses And a 90S paint job!
